Opening of the new art piece titled Viking Spirit by Valeria Maza, James Digiorgio Artist Scholarship Fund recipient. It’s presently displayed (and for sale) at the Night Art Park.
Valeria Maza, from Mexico City, started her career and developed her love of creating sculptures through James and Jeannie Di Giorgio. They taught her how to channel creativity with practical advice and help, and how to use various tools and materials to bring her vision to reality. The artist she is now is in large part thanks to them.
She opened her way in this industry through an opportunity to collaborate with world renown artist, Daniel Popper in the making of his famous piece, “Ven a la Luz”. and has been the director of its restauration the past few years.
Her first solo design and build, “Jimmy the Pink Rabbit” helped her grow as a solo artist, It can be found at km 6.5 on the Tulum beach road, Much thanks to Care With Me and Art With Me for the space, and Laura Kipton and to Kim Clark for making this piece come to life.
She is the first recipient of the James Di Giorgio Artist Scholarship, with which she created “Viking Spirit ”, life size wooden wings as a tribute to James. He showed her how through hard work, dedication and passion in what you do, you can achieve your goals. Valeria now follows his steps, and hopes to create more beautiful artistic creations that make him proud.
Valeria Maza Puente, originaria de la Ciudad de México, empezó su interés por el arte desde el deseo de aprender a utilizar diferentes herramientas para construir todo tipo de formas. Ha tenido la oportunidad de trabajar en el taller “Get To Work Hippies” donde los dueños, Jeanie y James DiGiorgio, fueron su principal fuente de inspiración y aprendizaje, y fue así como empezó a llevar sus visiones a la realidad.
Comenzó su camino en la industria del arte por medio de las esculturas que la llevaron a tener la oportunidad de trabajar con grandes artistas como Daniel Popper, reconocido mundialmente por su escultura “Ven a la Luz”, en los últimos años ha sido la encargada de la restauración de dicha pieza de arte.
Su primera obra es “Jimmy The Pink Rabbit” fue una gran aventura ya que le ayudó a confiar en sus habilidades como artista. Está ubicada en el km 6.5 de la zona hotelera de Tulum.
Su segunda pieza son las alas de madera que se encuentran en el parque de arte de Ahau, que nombró “Viking Spirit” como tributo a su gran maestro James DiGiorgio, gracias a él aprendió que trabajando duro y con pasión por lo que haces puedes lograr todo lo que te propongas. La artista que es hoy es gracias a su guía y enseñanza, esta pieza es para honrar a su maestro.
